According to the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain name is registered with must be valid and up to date at all times. In addition, this information is openly accessible on WHOIS websites and while this may be okay for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anyone can view their names and their personal email and home addresses, especially in an age when identity fraud is not that atypical. That is the reason why domain registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their clients without modifying them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. If it is activated, people will see the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they perform a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain name extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your personal information with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

If you have ordered a shared plan from our company and you’ve registered one or more domain names under your account, you will be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of them without difficulty and to keep your private info intact. Of course, this will be possible only with the extensions that support this option. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” logo next to each of your domain names. Its colour will tell you whether a domain name is protected or not and in the second case, you can activate Whois Privacy Protection with just several mouse clicks. Thus, you can protect your personal information even if you haven’t activated the Whois Privacy Protection service during the web hosting account order process. You will be able to renew or to deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service for any of your domains just as easily.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can enable our Whois Privacy Protection service easily. This takes only a few mouse clicks in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, through which you administer everything connected with your semi-dedicated account. This is the place where you can see all your active domains and for each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” logo, using which you can activate, renew or remove the service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-specific top-level domain name extensions that are Whois Privacy Protection-eligible and you will be able to see this in advance, so that you will not end up requesting a service that we can’t provide.
